Makeup Revolution – The One Foundation: Shade #15 & #16

Makeup Revolution – The One Foundation

I love Makeup Revolution as this brand is affordable and offers a wide variety of cosmetics. I especially love their range of foundation, as they seem to be one of the very few brands in India that caters to dark skin. Can’t miss the irony in this – Makeup Revolution is not an Indian company but still offers dark shades. Indian brands, do take notes!! Stocked up on old favorites and trying out some new ones as well.

I'm trying out makeup products from Makeup Revolution and Star's Cosmetics. I'm quite surprised with the Star's Cosmetics. Even though I bought these products on a whim, they are quite good. I will be reviewing them soon. Some of my personal favorites are eyeshadows from Makeup Revolution, bright pink/fuchsia matte lippie from Maybelline and yellow matte powder from Star's Cosmetics. I always keep searching for foundations that suits my oily face and at the same time doesn't break the bank. And my search led me to this one. I got this soon after i shifted to Bangalore and the weather was on the colder side. By then my skin had become bit dry and had to use some moisturizer. There is a reason why i'm yapping about the weather and my hold on.
My take on this:
The packaging is sturdy and of good quality. It comes with a pumping mechanism that disposes small quantity at a time. This is one of the great things about them. The pump keeps the product hygienic and the lock that comes with the pump keep it spill free and travel friendly.
There is pretty decent shade variations available. You can check out the pic here.
The foundations gives a very natural and flawless finish. It gives a satin finish instead of a matte finish. The pores look diminished and i have to agree that the effect is like that of an airbrush one. It feels so light on the skin. The foundation is really easy to blend and can be done using just fingers, a brush or a sponge. The foundation provides sheer to medium coverage and doesn't look cakey.
Like it claims, my skin didn't break out or have any allergic reactions. The foundation covers fine line and gives a smooth finish but when it comes to deeper lines and wrinkles, the foundation without a primer enhances them.
The product claims that its fragrance free but i can detect slight chemical-ish smell from it.This foundation is only suited for oily skin even though it is mentioned that its oil free. When the weather is cold or at least chill it works great on normal, oily or combination skin depending on how well you moisturize. When my skin was/is more on the normal side this is a great option. It is an excellent foundation to use everyday. It stays put for a decent 5-6 hours after fixing it with some powder. But on an oily skin it stays for a maximum of 2 hours after which the foundation just slides off giving a greasy and patchy appearance. The staying power is really less on a hot day and on oily skin. Well this horrible heat tests and makes even the best foundation to fail.
The next downside of this product is that it oxidizes and darkens or becomes orangish. The intensity of the darkening depends on the surrounding temperature. The hotter it is, the darker the foundation becomes.
Good packaging.
Pump dispenser.
Give natural finish
Easy to blend
Doesn't look cakey.
Makes the pores less visible.
Safe for sensitive skin
Not suited for oily skin
Foundation slides off
Slight chemical smell.
This foundation is great if you are only going out for couple of hours. Skip this foundation if you have oily skin most of the time or if you live in a hot place.

Latest Haul!!! Maybelline, In Color and others....

Hi Lovelies!!!, I know i'm posting after quite some time. Running after my son has hardly left me any time to do anything else.....what else is new right??!!! And that along with both of us being sick and this trip to my home town has zapped me of any remaining energy. Okay, enough with my rambling and let me go on with what i bought for myself 🙂 If not for retail therapy i dont know how sane i would be right now.
I bought these things over a period of two weeks, so its definitely retail therapy at work!!!!I ordered the In Color cosmetics - lip gloss and 1 eyeshadow from Snapdeal and that was one awful experience that deserves a separate post and will be doing it soon....or whenever time permits. I'm never ever gonna order from them again....
Below are the products from Incolor. The eyeshadow shade is 'Golden Bronze', but it looks to me like a Copper-ish tone. The lip gloss shades names are Blood Red (my fav), Mat Brown, Almond and Rusty Red. These goodies are so worth their money. If only they were easier to buy, i would get loads of their eyeshadows. Seriously this is good stuff. Will review them soon...ahem!!!
I bought each of them for Rs160/- You can get them much cheaper than have to look around hard.
Second comes the Maybelline haul - I got the Tattoos one in Fierce & Tangy. I got the Maybelline eyeshadow brush as a compliment for it at Health&Glow. The foundation is really good and claims to give an air brushed look.
I also got a compact powder from Streetwear, Make remover wipes,Tresseme Shampoo, Banjaras Aloe gel and Revlon Lipstick in 'Toast of NewYork'

Small Haul and Gifts from my sister :)

Hi Lovelies!!! I'm blogging after a long time. You all know that I was busy with the process of shifting here to Bangalore. Now I'm still in the process of settling down but feel that I can spare some time between the settling process and running after my 11 month old son 🙂
Here are the pics of my small haul and the gifts my cousin sister got me. Thanks a lot Madhu!!!
If you are interested in any of these products let me know, I will prioritise them and try to do a post on them first.

Lotus Matt Glow Foundation - Caramel

What it claims to do:

An oil-free, water-based, light-weight daily use foundation. It is easy to blend with finger tips and spreads evenly all over skin giving an ultimate 'Matte glow' finish. Even tones skin, hides imperfections. Provides natural look with satin feel. It is enriched with botanical extracts of Jojoba, soy Lecithin and Grape seed. The result is flawless finish which lasts for hours.

What it does:

It is a Shimmery and matte foundations that can be worn during the day.. AS far as the matte capability goes, this is the best time to test it, as it too humid and humidity opens up my oil wells. Under this weather condition, my face stays matte for about an hour. Considering how oily my face can get, this is not too great. Tried again but had set it with loose powder. This slightly increased the mattifying effect. I guess it doesn't work too well under humid conditions.

There are 3 shades available and 'Caramel; suited me. It also the darkest shade available. Bought it for Rs 175/- for 25ml

High Points:
This shimmery foundation can be worn during the day
Light weight - Feel like not wearing anything (on my face that is )
Has SPF (20)
It does spread evenly.

Low Points:
Cheap packaging - Unlike its other products from Lotus.
Skins stays matte for only about an hour.
Doesn't work well under humid conditions.
Does not hide imperfections (Dark circles still visible)

Would I buy this again???
Not really.

The Body Shop - Nature's Mineral Foundation

This is my first Mineral product and hopefully there will be more in the near future. Nature's Mineral Foundation is a very light and non-clogging. It has a added benefit of SPF25 in it. Mineral Products are the latest 'In' products. Its safe to use, even on sensitive and oily face. Well!!, i have clear skin, so the coverage is fine for me. On wearing, it feels like you are wearing no make-up. This one is for light coverage and is great if you are going for the natural look. I wear this foundation when i go out during the day as the light coverage feels comfortable and does not make my face look cakey. The foundations needs to applied with the Kabuki brush. It relatively easy to get the hang of it. All you need is practice.
The shade that suits my medium to dark oh-so-south complexion is shade #05.

  • Feels light, as if wearing no make-up.
  • Has SPF 25.
  • Blends easily and smoothly.
  • Can be used on sensitive skin (Using my skin as an example)
  • Works on Combination skin to oily but not toooo oily skin. Hope it makes sense.
  • Can be used for natural look kind of make-up.
  • Comes with a cute kabuki brush.
  • Does not lead to break-outs or irritations on skin.

  • Does not help with the oiliness on the skin. (If skin is toooo oily).
  • I doubt that it will be effective in humid places. Anyway, nothing works in humid places. When i go back to my home town Chennai, i'm left with very few options because my oily skin goes in to over-drive.
Would I buy it again?
Definitely. I bought this from Qatar. Not sure where it is available here.
Here is another review on the same product. It also includes info about how to use the Kabuki brush for applying the Foundation.

Avon Simply Pretty- Fresh Radiance Gel Foundation Review

I had tried Lakme Soufflé, Revlon and Street wear foundations but this one works for me. I believe that each and every product behaves differently on different people. For some even the expensive product doesn’t work. This product works for me. And the only way to know if it works for you is to try it out. I have chosen the shade 'Natural Beige'. This fits most of the Indian complexion.

What Avon Claims:
  • Enhances your skin’s natural radiance.
  • Get even, flawless skin.
  • Feels light, as if not wearing any make-up.
  • Blends and glides smoothly and easily.
  • Oil free and wont clog pores.
  • Safe for sensitive skin.

About the Ingredients:

Titanium Dioxide – This is one of the ingredients mentioned in the products. Titanium Dioxide is one of the active ingredient in Sunscreen that reflects sunlight. Funny, how no mention about the sunscreen properties and the SPF value on the product. I guess it must be insignificant that it doesn’t even qualify to be in the lower SPF spectrum.

Does it do what it says????
I would say ‘Yes’.
It works fine even on my oily skin. The coverage is good on fairly blemish-free skin but this is not for people looking for superior coverage. In that case, a concealer has to be used. Its super smooth and thereby easy to apply and blend. But make sure you do it fast.Did not face any break-outs so works even on my sensitive skin. And It does feel light, like I’m not wearing any make-up.

  • Staying power is decent even on my oily skin.
  • Does everything it claims.
  • This is a budget-buy as it costs only Rs149/-
  • Small and neat packaging. The plastic tube is small and safe enough to be carried in your purse.

  • Apt only for people not expecting full coverage.
  • Quantity is only 30 ml. This is not a problem for people who don’t use foundation on a regular basis.
  • Available only in 3 shades. (A lot of other reviews on the same mentions that the shade ‘Natural Beige’ suits most of the Indian skin’)

Would I buy it again?

Yes, But since there are other budget-buy foundations in Oriflame as well, would love to try them too.
