City Color Creamy Lips - Sweet Sangria, Chocolate Merlot and Flirtini

City Color Creamy Lips - Sweet Sangria, Chocolate Merlot and Flirtini

City Color Creamy Lips is one of the products I had purchased from Beauty Joint. City Color is an interesting brand and I find them to be very affordable. They have an array of makeup products; from lip gloss to contouring products. I’m especially interested in their matte & sunlit bronzer and their primers. Perhaps next time, I will do a City Color haul.

They have 12 beautiful shades in this range and I’m in love with each and every single one of them. Out of these 12, I got Sweet Sangria, Chocolate Merlot and Flirtini.

Let’s hear what the brand has to say about this product.

With true opaque color, City Color Creamy Lips is a lip paint that just won't quit! A little goes a long way with this ultra pigmented formula - only a light touch is needed for full coverage with only one layer. Sets to a lightweight, semi-matte finish that doesn't dry out and keeps your lips natural moisture preserved. Available in 12 sweet and sultry shades. Pro-tip: Wipe excess product off wand before applying to ensure the best application and staying power.

My Thoughts on This Product:

The City Color Creamy Lips comes in a cute packaging. It is quite sturdy and leak proof as well. The tubes are almost similar to the shade of the product itself. What I love the most about this product is that it is unbelievably pigmented. It is by far the most pigmented lip product I have seen. It is opaque and provides a smooth and even coverage and hides my pigmented lips quite nicely. The consistency is creamy as the name suggests and a little goes a long way. You can use little at a time and buildup to get the desired effect.

Here are the swatches of the shades.

I love the semi-matte finish. I always have loved this finish as matte finish makes my lips look prune-ey and I’m also not a big fan of super shiny finish. You can get two different finishes; the product as such provides a slight shine and on blotting it gives a semi-matte finish.

It feels very light on my lips and doesn't dry out my lips. I have read a lot of reviews where they have mentioned that the formula is similar to the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. Can’t verify this claim, as I haven’t used NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams.

You don’t need a liner when using this lip cream, but using it doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t bleed or feather as well. It lasts about 3-4 hours. After eating and drinking, you can see it fading off but it does leave a stain behind, though the stain isn’t as intense as the initial application. I have observed that this one highlights flaky lips. So, you got to buff out those dry and chapped skin.

It does transfer like crazy; since they never claimed to be non-transferrable, I really can’t hold it against it.

It comes with a doe foot applicator. The brush is sturdy and does its job very well. It has a mild scent to it and every shade has the same fragrance. It's not an overtly sweet scent; It's like a light floral scent. Its not very irritating but I’m glad that it goes away after a while

Pros:

  • Super pigmented
  • Two different finishes
  • Feel light on the lips
  • Excellent coverage
  • Smooth and even finish
  • A little goes a long way
  • Available in 12 shades
  • Does not feather or bleed

Cons:

  • Staying power is only 3-4 hours
  • Mild fragrance. Might be irritating for some.

Verdict:

Overall, I’m pretty happy with this product. It is very affordable and pigmented, just wishing that it lasted a little bit longer.

Thanks, Swathi. I love dark shades too but lately I'm leaning more towards lighter shades. Hope it's just a phase 🙂

Flirtini looks pretty! Will it wash me out?

    • http://shadesofaduskywoman.com/ Sudhaa Gopinath

Not much, Mariyam. I balance this shade by using a brown lip liner. Then it doesn't look too odd.
